How to play Poople

Poople is a four-letter word ladder game with one memorable destination: POOP. Every move changes exactly one letter and keeps the result a valid English word. Play unlimited practice puzzles, work through hints at your own pace, and compare your ladder with a shortest route in this dictionary.

Start with the word on the board

Keep the goal POOP in mind. Enter another four-letter word that differs from your current word by exactly one letter. For example, BOOK → COOK → COOP → POOP is a valid three-move ladder.

Use a word from the practice dictionary

The game uses a curated subset of 1,028 four-letter words from a public-domain word list. A word can be real English and still be outside this small practice dictionary. Invalid or repeated words never advance the ladder.

Choose a hint without spoiling the whole route

The first hint identifies a letter position to change. A second hint gives a next word on a shortest remaining route. If you reach a branch that would require a repeated word, undo a step before trying again.

Compare the result and train again

Easy starts are 2–4 moves from POOP, medium starts are 5–6 moves away, and hard starts need at least 7 moves. The final screen shows one shortest route. Other valid routes are accepted. Undo removes the last step from your current ladder.

Daily puzzles and saved progress

Daily puzzles reset at midnight UTC and use this site’s independent version-one schedule. Switching modes keeps your current daily and practice progress separately. The game checks the UTC date while open and on returning to the page. Changing difficulty keeps a started puzzle and applies to the next puzzle. Completed daily results count once per date. Local records cover the last 50 finished puzzles and are not synced between devices.

Keyboard and touch

Focus the word field, type or paste four letters, and press Enter. Buttons for hints, undo and the next puzzle work with the keyboard. Use the device keyboard normally on mobile.
